Poster Design & Visual Identity / 2024

The concept of my design was inspired by the multilevel design of the art buildings, a unique characteristic among SDSU departments. I wanted to create a poster that operates along the X, Y, and Z axes. The spatial relationship between these three axes generates a mutually perpendicular outcome. Two columns side by side, each of the same size, emphasize the illusion of dimension. The various isometric viewpoints allow for a perception of depth, while the interplay between colors produces geometric abstraction. I initially created each panel as a flat and two-dimensional element. Each panel was created individually and with the same margins to ensure a sense of cohesiveness throughout the design. I then transformed each group using Adobe Illustrator’s three-dimensional tools and viewpoints.

CMYK yellow serves as the dominant color and is supported by a combination of white, black, and gray. The color palette reflects a contemporary tone that embodies the various creative fields. The gray foreground in the bottom right separates the two columns from an isometric perspective, implying an entranceway into the event. Each color serves its intended purpose in terms of directing the viewer's eye in relation to text and dimension. As a whole, my design is meant to provide legibility from a distance, while inviting the viewer to take a closer look.

The mailing side of my postcard design utilizes the two-dimensional planes that were created before warping the perspective. The image side displays the same composition as the poster but without any type, allowing the viewer to engage directly with the shapes. My design for the Instagram post utilizes the upper portion of my poster design, while only including the various departments.
